About Dana:
I am a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and PA-certified special (N-12) and elementary (K-6) education teacher, with a strong clinical and pedagogical background in educating students with a wide variety of special needs. Since I was 16 years old I have been passionate about providing an appropriate and comprehensive education for students with autism. I’ve developed this passion into a strong body of knowledge and clinical expertise centering on the characteristics of autism spectrum disorders, and ways to teach students with ASDs the academic, social, communication, behavioral, and functional life skills they need to interact successfully with their peers and others in their communities. I have specific, graduate-level training in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) from Penn State University.
I obtained my Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in psychology, from Franklin & Marshall College, in Lancaster, PA. I received my Master of Education degree from Penn State University (Main Campus), with a major in Special Education.
Though I specialize in working with students diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders, my master’s degree and certifications prepare me to work with all students.
I have experience working in an elementary grades (K-5) multiple disabilities support classroom, which followed a life skills curriculum, in a lower functioning autistic support middle school classroom, in higher-functioning (on grade level, and gifted) autistic support classrooms, in learning support classrooms, with multiply handicapped and medically fragile students, with students with physical disabilities, intellectual disabilities, and complex communication needs. I have worked with students with ADHD and/or dyslexia, and students with hearing, vision, or dual-sensory impairments. I have worked in the public schools as well as in the BHRS (wraparound) system, and now in private practice.
I look forward to getting to know your family and your child. My programs address each child individually. My mission is to build confidence and love of learning, giving students a solid foundation for a healthy and happy life.
I am dedicated to helping children discover their unique potential – academically, socially, and interpersonally.
